Amidst the calamity in the world and the chaos of the ripple effect that are seeming symptoms of madness, there is a shining beacon emerging with the promise to lift spirits and bring our community together.
In our 20th Anniversary year, we are delighted to announce the 2022 SCAS school musical:
The Dream on Royal Street – A Musical by Alan Menken
A madcap interpretation of the Bard’s romantic A Midsummer Night’s Dream set in present times in the Royal Street Hotel of New Orleans on Mardi Gras night. Egeus, who owns the hotel, wants his daughter Hermia to marry Demetrius, the assistant manager. Hermia loves Lysander, a lowly desk clerk, and the switchboard girl Helena loves Demetrius. When Oberon and Titania, the fabulous Las Vegas rock stars appearing in the hotel’s nightclub, have a falling out, the four lovers become involved in Oberon’s scheme for revenge.
Alan Menken also wrote Little Shop of Horrors the same year he wrote this very accessible and creative modernisation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The words and lyrics are very true to the original story and the score is lively with hilarious songs that work so well for students and adults. This gem of a musical bears many hallmarks of Menken’s famously foot-tapping style!
Our whole staff at St Columba will be involved in supporting this Musical and we will also have industry guests pop in to see the rehearsals and cheer on the students as we prepare to open our doors to invite the community to see the production in October, Term 4.
Auditions
Students in Years 6 to 10 are invited to audition for the School Musical. There will be a $100 contribution fee towards the costs of student costumes and special music arrangements made for the successful student performers.

Audition Requirements
You will be required to sing a short song, unaccompanied, that showcases your vocal range. You will be given a sample script to read (you will not have to prepare this prior to the audition day). As part of the general audition process, you will partake in a group dance audition with Mrs Pringle and Mrs Askell.
Rehearsal and Performance Dates
Rehearsals commence weekly from Wednesday, 2 March with a special holiday rehearsal on the last weekend of the October break. The performance will be in October during Term 4, 2022.
