Today, I had the chance to join Year 10 in their worship service, which serves as a cornerstone of our School’s values. With students coming from diverse backgrounds, their connections to this aspect of our school life vary. Some are accustomed to and enjoy these moments of worship, while for others, it might be their only exposure to such an experience.
Nonetheless, this aspect is crucial to our school community, and we encourage all students to utilise this time to centre themselves, reflect, and find peace and quiet. I was impressed by Year 10’s response today; they arrived on time, participated respectfully, and achieved a remarkable level of stillness.
The visible transformation in these students from the moment they entered the Chapel was striking. The opportunity to pause, slow down, and seek a spiritual connection is integral to our own wellbeing. Witnessing the impact of this time on our students reminded me of the value of such learning opportunities, even if they may not always align with experiences outside of school.
The emphasis on the benefits of reflection and stillness is further supported by our School’s wellbeing program. This year, all students will have access to a journal containing short but effective tools aimed at equipping them with skills to enhance their wellbeing. The learning curve program consists of evidence-based lessons and activities that are growth mindset oriented so that they arouse students’ interest and curiosity to want to learn more about themselves socially, emotionally and academically. In a world where students are constantly bombarded with stimuli and are always on the go, these resources are invaluable in helping them thrive.
