EarlyAct is a school service club for Primary aged students and is sponsored by Port Macquarie Sunrise Rotary. The mission and operation of EarlyAct are closely linked to the ideals of Rotary and provide the foundation and natural succession into Interact (Secondary School service club).
“Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” (Excerpts from Rotary.org)
EarlyAct provides opportunities for SCAS Primary students to gain increased awareness of their community and the world, and to recognise the dignity and worth of each individual. EarlyAct also engages students in character-building activities and prepares them for leadership roles.
EarlyAct works in partnership with Sunrise Rotary and we are fortunate to have Mrs Heather Norton (Chair of our School Council) as our school advisor. Mrs Norton will address the students at our Stage Assemblies in the coming weeks. In Term 2 the group will have formal meetings presided by a student President, Vice President and Committee. The operations and activities of the SCAS EarlyAct Club will be monitored to meet the Rotary values and principles.
Students in Year 3 to Year 6 are welcome to join the first meeting on Friday, 1 March, at Long Break to be held in the Visual Arts room. We will begin our initial service work with a craft project based around a charity fundraiser. At our first meeting the students will work collaboratively to identify issues of interest or concern to students, whether local or global. Planning for the following weeks activities will then be discussed as to what students need to bring for their ideas of sellable craft items.
This is an exciting initiative for our students and we look forward to this important partnership with such a well respected community group.
