We are excited to welcome Mr Chris Barber to our Mathematics Faculty. With a dynamic background, Chris brings a fresh perspective to our Maths department.
Prior to settling in Port Macquarie, Chris was engaged in international endeavours, first with the Australian government and later as the head of training for an advisory company in South East Asia. While pursuing a Masters degree, Chris gained invaluable teaching skills, teaching Mathematics at Hastings Secondary College.
At SCAS, we believe that diversity in experiences leads to innovation in education. We are confident that Chris will inspire students to engage with mathematics in exciting and meaningful ways.
Join us in welcoming Chris to the SCAS community.
We asked Chris some questions to find out a little more about his interests and passions.
What are you looking forward to most at SCAS in 2024?
Seeing the SCAS Deep Learning and 6C’s philosophy in practice, particularly helping maths be more relevant, engaging and accessible to students.
What was your favourite co-curricular activity as a student?
We didn’t have co-curricular in any form like what SCAS offers, but through school, I was heavily involved in the Australian Mathematical Olympiad programs. Outside of school, I played baseball, basketball and soccer through secondary school.
What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend?
Anything involving my daughter, and often outside – having spent many years in more polluted or congested cities, we still don’t take the clean outdoors for granted!
What was your latest good read?
“I am Pilgrim” by Terry Hayes. A cross between a detective mystery and an espionage thriller written in a unique style.
Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
Slightly less now that I am not travelling as much, but I am a frequent flyer points junkie, and can discuss the pros/cons and redemption sweet spots of most airline loyalty programs!
